North Korea has approved a new constitutional amendment предусматриing the automatic launch of a nuclear strike in the event that leader Kim Jong Un is assassinated or the country’s command system is placed at risk.

According to international reports, the amendment was adopted during a session of the Supreme People’s Assembly in Pyongyang and states that any attack on the country’s leadership structure will be considered a direct threat to the state, triggering an immediate nuclear response.

The updated document reportedly states that “if the command and control system over the state’s nuclear forces is endangered by attacks from hostile forces, a nuclear strike will be launched automatically and immediately.”

Reports also indicate that the constitutional changes reflect a tougher approach by Pyongyang toward South Korea, officially treating it as a separate state and removing all references to reunification.
