The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, stated that in its 16 years of existence and 15 years since the establishment of the Constitutional Court, the Republic of Kosovo has set an extraordinary example of the rule of law.
Speaking at the international conference organized on the theme: “Developments in Contemporary Constitutional Justice – The Example of the Balkan Region,” Osmani mentioned that the experiences of constitutional courts are beneficial for every judge in specific cases.
“The courts in Kosovo have provided a very good example of the rule of law. The establishment of this forum will further enhance cooperation among constitutional courts in the protection and guarantee of human rights and freedoms. Our institutions remain committed to the fundamental principles of democracy, the rule of law, and the guarantee of human rights,” said Osmani, as reported by RTKLive.
“The constitutions of our states represent significant historical turning points. We are discussing the challenges faced by constitutional courts in the Balkans here, and I am happy that this is taking place in Pristina. I hope this event will identify challenges and inspire us for cooperation that strengthens our shared values,” said Gresa Caka-Nimani, Chairwoman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo.
The Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo is hosting the Second Annual Meeting of the Forum of Constitutional Courts of the Balkans, as one of its founding members and with equal rights in this international professional forum of constitutional justice.
The first anniversary of the establishment of the Forum of Constitutional Courts of the Balkans is being marked by several activities.
The conference will continue with two sessions, where among the main speakers will be the chairs and judges of the constitutional courts from the region, representatives of the European Court of Human Rights, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the Venice Commission, and the World Jurist Association.
The Forum of Constitutional Courts of the Balkans, established on October 27, 2023, brings together the Constitutional Courts of Kosovo, Albania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Turkey around shared values of democracy, the rule of law, and the protection of human rights.
This professional forum was established to strengthen cooperation among the constitutional courts of the region and to serve as a platform for discussion and exchange of experiences regarding constitutional justice.
