Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani participated in the Clinton Global Initiative in New York on September 24th, sharing reflections on Kosovo’s journey and the experience of being a refugee.

Osmani spoke about Kosovo’s unwavering desire for freedom, stating that no one could deny this, regardless of how long the path to freedom took. “Being a refugee shapes you personally and professionally for life, inspiring you to serve your country, people, and humanity,” she said.

She emphasized Kosovo’s role on the global stage, noting, “Though we are a small country, I firmly believe our impact in the world shouldn’t be limited by geographic size or location. Kosovo’s story reflects the power of partnership, alliances, and democracy.”

Osmani also highlighted Kosovo’s commitment to helping refugees worldwide. She shared that Kosovo was the first to respond to U.S. President Joe Biden’s call to shelter Afghan refugees. “Just 15 minutes after receiving the request, I responded positively. We understand what it means to be forced to flee your home and be denied basic human rights,” she explained.

Osmani stressed Kosovo’s continued support for Ukraine and other refugees globally, stating, “We are the voice for the voiceless, advocating worldwide for those in need of help.”

During her U.S. visit, Osmani held several significant meetings.
