Former Slovenian President, Borut Pahor, has confirmed that he did not submit his candidacy for the position of the new EU Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Slovenian media reported today.

Pahor had previously expressed his willingness to take on this role, but in explaining his decision not to run, he cited several factors, including disagreements with the EU’s official enlargement policy, according to STA.

“My personal views on EU enlargement differ from the official EU policy,” said Pahor.

Borut Pahor served as President of Slovenia from 2012 to 2022 and is a politician who advocates for the accession of new EU members in a package deal.

Pahor believes that promoting the idea of Montenegro and Albania joining the EU as soon as possible would be “more of an obstacle than an incentive.”
