Renowned American Balkan Analyst Janusz Bugajski Passes Away at 71

Janusz Bugajski, a prominent American analyst of Polish origin and expert on Euro-Atlantic and Balkan affairs, has passed away at the age of 71. Bugajski was widely recognized as a defender of democracy and press freedom.

During his career, Bugajski collaborated with numerous prestigious international institutions and was a regular analyst for Voice of America (VOA).

The news of his death was shared by Elez Biberaj, former VOA director for Europe and Eurasia, who stated:
“I was deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of my friend and close colleague, Janusz Bugajski. He was a brilliant analyst of Eurasian affairs, a prolific author whose works profoundly shaped our understanding of the region, and a steadfast advocate for democracy, good governance, and press freedom. His insights were always clear, principled, and deeply informed.”

Bugajski authored numerous books and analyses on international politics, with a particular focus on Balkan developments, NATO, and transatlantic relations.

He was born on September 23, 1954, in Nantwich, Cheshire, England.
