The relations between Kosovo and Hungary and Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe were discussed during a meeting between the Foreign Affairs and Diaspora Committee and the Ambassador of Hungary to Kosovo, Béla Bozsik.
The Chair of this committee, Arbëresha Kryeziu-Hyseni, stated that they have requested to advance issues of mutual interest. She mentioned that they also sought assistance in Kosovo’s path toward membership in the Council of Europe, as Hungary currently holds the presidency of the EU.
“We discussed the relations that Kosovo has with Hungary, with a particular focus on Hungary’s current EU presidency. Certainly, during this period of their presidency, our aim is to push forward issues that we consider important to advance,” Kryeziu-Hyseni said.
“We also discussed Kosovo’s membership in the Council of Europe and the positions that Hungarian deputies, who are members of the Council of Europe, have held in this process. The idea is to find a common language with them and make them understand how important it is to vote in favor of Kosovo’s membership. This is not only about a specific issue related to Kosovo but is also crucial for the stability of the Western Balkans and, consequently, for the EU itself,” Kryeziu-Hyseni added.
Kryeziu stated that they have sent an invitation to her counterpart in Budapest for Hungary’s Foreign Policy to visit Kosovo.
“We aim to enhance further cooperation with Hungary at the inter-parliamentary level. Thus, we have sent an invitation to the Foreign Policy Committee in Budapest and expect that the Hungarian Foreign Policy Committee will visit Kosovo by the end of this year to intensify inter-parliamentary relations and also to build a solid cooperation so that deputies can see firsthand how important it is for Kosovo to be supported in advancing its European agenda,” she concluded.
