The spokesperson for the European Union, Peter Stano, has warned Kosovo that it risks being “alone and left behind” if it does not listen to its friends and allies following its recent actions in the Serb-majority northern part of the country.
“We have nothing to say on the matter of reopening the bridge. I can only remind everyone who has trouble listening and understanding that all of Kosovo’s friends and allies [the EU, the US, NATO, and the United Kingdom] have clearly and unequivocally stated that it is in Kosovo’s interest to listen to its friends and allies, otherwise, it risks being isolated and left behind,” Stano emphasized, reports Radio Free Europe.
At the beginning of August, the Government of Kosovo announced its intentions to open the bridge over the Ibër River to vehicle traffic, which divides Mitrovica into the Albanian-majority south and the Serb-majority north, despite opposition from the US, the EU, and the QUINT countries.
