The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has announced that, starting May 7, stricter identity checks will be enforced at U.S. airports. Travelers without updated identification may be denied boarding.
Specifically, beginning on this date, TSA will no longer accept identity documents that do not meet the REAL ID standards — federally mandated ID regulations originally passed by Congress in 2005. Implementation had been repeatedly delayed.
The TSA warned that travelers over the age of 18 who do not present a valid passport or a compliant REAL ID may face delays, additional screening, or denial of entry at security checkpoints.
