The trial of Ramadan Morina, who is accused of war crimes against the civilian population in the village of Burim in Malishevë during 1998–1999, has been postponed following a request from his defence team.
The defence, represented by lawyer Arianit Koci, requested the delay, while the Special Prosecution Office of Kosovo opposed the motion. After reviewing the request, the court decided to postpone the hearing and scheduled the continuation of the trial for September and October.
During the session, prosecutor Armend Zenelaj objected to the delay, noting that the court had previously ordered the Special Prosecution to obtain testimony from an anonymous witness identified as D1.
The defence also raised concerns about a court notice sent in April, in which both the lawyer and his client were allegedly misidentified as Serbian. Judge Beqiri clarified that this was a technical error and not an institutional position, explaining that many war crimes cases before the court involve defendants of Serbian nationality.
According to the indictment, Morina is accused of participating, together with others, in killings, expulsions, arrests, and physical abuse of civilians during the war in Kosovo in the village of Burim, Malishevë. The prosecution alleges that 35 men were separated from a group of civilians, while women and children were forced to leave under armed threat. It further claims that members of Serbian police forces opened fire, killing 34 civilians.
Morina was arrested in Prishtina in August last year on suspicion of committing “war crimes against the civilian population.”
