U.S. President Donald Trump says that “many elements” of a peace agreement in Ukraine have been agreed upon with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, ahead of their much-anticipated phone call.
Trump posted on Truth Social that he will speak with Putin by phone on Tuesday morning.
He emphasized that while agreements have been made, “there is still much” to discuss.
“Every week brings 2,500 soldier deaths, on both sides, and this must end NOW. I am looking forward to the call with President Putin,” Trump wrote.
He had previously told reporters that “we’ll see if we can work out a peace deal, a ceasefire, and peace, and I think they’ll be able to do it.”
In his Monday night speech, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky accused Putin of prolonging the war.
