Ukraine launched more than 600 drones toward Moscow overnight, according to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, who described it as one of the largest long-range attacks in the region since the beginning of the war more than four years ago.

The attack began Tuesday evening and continued into Wednesday morning, with 637 Ukrainian drones reportedly launched toward Moscow.

Russian officials said at least 180 drones were shot down in the Moscow region, while more than 150 others were intercepted in different parts of the country.

A building and warehouse belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer, caught fire in the Moscow region.

Ukraine has intensified attacks on the company’s warehouses and factories over the past month. According to Ukraine’s Ministry of Defence, seven of its 10 largest logistics facilities have been destroyed. No deaths have been confirmed in the Ukrainian strikes, although authorities have reported injuries.

Meanwhile, Russia carried out an overnight attack on Pechenihy in Ukraine’s eastern Kharkiv region, killing 10 people, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

“We will certainly respond to this Russian attack,” Zelenskyy wrote on X.

Russian officials have also threatened consequences over the alleged use of British-made drones in Ukrainian attacks deep inside Russia. Although Ukraine produces the overwhelming majority of its own attack drones, Russian officials claimed Tuesday that debris recovered at attack sites indicated that some drones had been manufactured in Britain.

The latest escalation highlights the increasingly long-range nature of the war, with Ukraine striking targets deep inside Russia while Moscow continues its attacks across Ukrainian territory.
