US Senator Jeanne Shaheen and Senator Dick Durbin have emphasised the importance of the partnership between Kosovo and the United States, expressing their desire to continue and strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
The two senators discussed Kosovo–US relations, the resumption of the Strategic Dialogue, Kosovo’s aspirations for NATO membership, the future of Camp Bondsteel, relations with Serbia and the Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
Senator Jeanne Shaheen stressed that Kosovo and the United States have been good partners, highlighting the importance of continuing cooperation and maintaining strong relations between the two countries.
Speaking about the process of normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, Shaheen said progress would require commitment from both sides.
She revealed that she had held meetings and discussions with Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti and Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, with the aim of encouraging closer relations between the two countries.
Meanwhile, Senator Dick Durbin told Kosovo’s public broadcaster RTK that he wanted to see relations improve but expressed reservations about the prospects for rapid progress under the current circumstances, particularly with elections approaching.
“We want to see improvements, but at this point, so close to the elections, I don’t see much potential for significant progress,” he said.
