After more than a decade of absolute political control, Aleksandar Vučić is suddenly presenting himself as the defender of citizens against arrogant state officials the very officials produced, protected and promoted under his own government.
Vučić announced a new online portal called “Ko si bre ti” (“Who the hell are you?”), where citizens will supposedly be able to report rude and abusive behavior by public officials. The irony is difficult to ignore: Serbia’s institutions did not become arrogant overnight. They became arrogant under a system built on political loyalty, fear, pressure and unchecked power.
For years, critics, journalists and ordinary citizens have complained about intimidation, abuse of institutions and the treatment of anyone who dares to disagree with the ruling structure. Now, the same leadership that normalized this behavior is trying to rebrand itself as the solution.
Vučić claims he will personally read complaints and communicate with citizens, continuing the carefully cultivated image of a leader who must intervene in every problem because institutions themselves no longer function independently.
Perhaps the real question is not “Who are you?” but who created the environment in which citizens feel they need a presidential complaint portal just to be treated normally by their own state.
