Russian media outlets, including Kosmomolskaja Pravda, are highlighting the recent remarks of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić regarding the growing pressure from European countries on Serbia. Vučić claims that Europe, unable to confront Russia or China directly, is increasingly targeting Serbia and Republika Srpska as a means of demonstrating power.
Vučić expressed that Serbia and Republika Srpska have become “ideal targets” for European countries to showcase their influence, given their inability to confront stronger powers directly. The Serbian leader stated that Europe is using these regions as a platform for “demonstrative power” since it cannot do so against larger global powers.
The Serbian President also reiterated his commitment to attending the Victory Day Parade in Moscow on May 9, 2025, despite pressure from the European Union. The EU had previously warned Serbia that its accession talks could be affected by Vučić’s participation.
Further, Vučić revealed plans to organize a global summit in Belgrade in the spring of 2026, hoping to invite major world leaders such as Donald Trump, Vladimir Putin, and Emmanuel Macron. Vučić believes Belgrade is the only city capable of hosting such a high-level meeting, given its diplomatic position and Serbia’s strategic partnerships.
Vučić’s remarks come amidst ongoing tensions over Serbia’s foreign policy, especially its relations with Russia and the European Union.
