The proposal to increase electricity prices by 15% has sparked strong backlash from citizens, with the final decision expected to be made today, April 11, by the Energy Regulatory Office (ZRRE).

Starting at 10:00 AM, ZRRE’s Board will hold its third session of the year, with the proposed energy price hike on the agenda. Alongside the approval of the minutes from the previous session, the Board is also set to review the maximum allowed revenues for energy operators.

As the authorities prepare to seal the decision, citizens are mobilizing in protest. The activist group “Asnjë cent më shumë” has called for a demonstration at 12:00 PM in Zahir Pajaziti Square to oppose the price increase, following a wave of public outrage across social media platforms.

The proposed hike has been justified by ZRRE Director Petrit Pepaj, who cited fluctuations in international energy markets as the main driver behind the 15% rise. However, public dissatisfaction continues to grow, with many calling the decision unjust and unaffordable during a time of ongoing economic pressures.
