U.S. President Donald Trump commemorated the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks during a ceremony at the Pentagon, declaring that the United States will never forget that day and linking its memory to the country’s ongoing fight against terrorism.
“We will never forget. That is exactly why we fight today. We have no choice. Only victory can come,” Trump said during his speech.
The president described the attacks as “a moment of great and terrible evil,” emphasizing that September 11 was one of the most difficult trials the United States has faced.
Trump reflected on how Americans responded in the aftermath of the attacks, highlighting national unity and the solidarity shown during one of the darkest moments in the country’s history.
“Time has not diminished the honor of that day when our country faced true evil,” Trump said, adding that the anniversary also serves as a reminder of how America responded to the attacks.
According to Trump, it was in moments like these that the character of the American nation was demonstrated.
A significant part of his speech was dedicated to the heroes of September 11. Trump honored firefighters, police officers, emergency responders and ordinary citizens who risked their lives to help people they had never met.
“Our heroes are the ones who run into buildings and give their lives on a Tuesday morning for strangers they have never met,” Trump said.
The president contrasted their courage with the actions of the terrorists, arguing that the American response to the attacks demonstrated the resilience and unity of the nation.
The Pentagon ceremony marked 25 years since the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people and reshaped U.S. national security and foreign policy for decades.
