Abedin Rexha, known by his nickname “Sandokani,” was one of the prominent fighters of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA). He was born on July 8, 1969, in Vajnik, Skenderaj. He completed primary school in Turiçec and secondary school in Skenderaj, before continuing his studies at the Faculty of Mining and Metallurgy in Mitrovica.
During his school years, Rexha became involved in underground activities and went into exile in 1992. He returned to Kosovo in the autumn of 1996, and during 1997–1998 he took part in organizing and expanding the ranks of the KLA.
At the beginning of August 1998, Rexha was appointed commander of the 112th “Arben Haliti” Brigade in the Drenica Operational Zone. During the following months, he participated in several battles in the area.
On October 8, 1998, Abedin Rexha was killed in the forests of Kllodernica, Skenderaj.
He left behind his wife and two children, Sokoli and Selvete. His name has been commemorated in writings, songs and poems, while the school in Turiçec bears his name.
