State media in Iran have reported that a senior figure within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has been killed, raising concern and reactions across the regional stage.

Gholamreza Soleimani, who served for six years as commander of the Basij—a volunteer paramilitary force within the IRGC—is recognized as a strong figure within Iran’s internal security and control structures. The Basij has played a key role in defending the regime and suppressing domestic protests.

Earlier, the Israeli military claimed responsibility for killing Soleimani, describing him as a “key instrument” of repression and control in Iran. The announcement heightened tensions between Iran and Israel, raising fears of further escalation in the region.

Until now, there had been no official confirmation from Iranian authorities, leaving room for speculation and a variety of international media reports.

Recent reports from state media now appear to confirm that Soleimani is deceased. Analysts say his death could have significant implications for Iran’s security structures and may influence how the regime responds to internal challenges and external threats.
