On the 27th anniversary of NATO’s intervention in Kosovo, Albanian Minister of Defense Ermal Nufi described the event as a historic moment of extraordinary significance, not only for the Albanian nation but also for the conscience of the democratic world.

According to Nufi, the intervention represented a decisive act to stop a humanitarian tragedy and to protect human dignity, marking a turning point in the right of peoples to live freely and in peace.

“27 years ago, NATO’s intervention in Kosovo marked a historic moment, not only for the Albanian nation but for the very conscience of the democratic world. It was a decisive act to halt a humanitarian tragedy and defend human dignity in the face of a regime that had chosen violence and destruction.

For the Albanian factor in the region, this intervention was much more than a military operation; it was a historical turning point that confirmed the right to live freely and peacefully. It demonstrated that the values on which the Western world is built—freedom, human dignity, and justice—are not merely written principles, but commitments defended resolutely wherever they are threatened.

Kosovo and its democratic institutions today are the strongest guarantee that the decision made 27 years ago was the right one. With its commitment to grow alongside its allies, Kosovo deserves to soon have its rightful place at all tables and institutions of the Euro-Atlantic architecture.

Today, 27 years later, this event remains a powerful reminder that peace is not given—it requires ongoing commitment. NATO continues to be the greatest guarantor of security and stability, not only in the Balkans but worldwide, standing on the front lines of defending the values that unite us.

Albania remains unwavering in its commitment to the Alliance. Our contribution to peacekeeping missions and collective defense is a clear expression of this commitment and our conviction that security is a shared responsibility.

Standing together in unity and solidarity is the strongest guarantee that tragedies against life, peace, and Western values will never be repeated,” wrote Minister Nufi.
