Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated on March 25, 2026, that Germany is currently arming itself faster than any other country in the world, surpassing even the United States in terms of military investment. Speaking on national television, he said that Germany’s rapid military buildup is remarkable and that Serbia should focus on its own defense priorities without being lectured by other nations. Vučić praised Germany’s investments in conventional weapons, noting that the country is positioning itself among the top global powers in military capabilities.

Addressing Serbia’s regional security concerns, Vučić criticized a military alliance formed between Prishtina, Tirana, and Zagreb, claiming that it is explicitly directed against Serbia. He emphasized that Serbia has not formed any military alliances in the region, and that it is closely monitoring the arming of neighboring countries, including Albania and Croatia. According to Vučić, Croatia possesses a modern and highly capable military, including fighter jets, helicopters, rocket launchers, and specialized defense production facilities, particularly in Karlovac. Despite this, he stressed that Serbia respects its neighbors’ capabilities but maintains a policy of deterrence rather than provocation.

Vučić also drew attention to Albania’s increasing military capacity, supported by Western countries and Turkey. He emphasized that Serbia must maintain sufficient strength and readiness to deter any potential aggression, underlining that the country’s approach is based on responsibility and strategic prudence rather than confrontation.

On the topic of domestic defense, Vučić insisted that Serbia will preserve peace almost at any cost. He reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding citizens and protecting the country from the dangers it faced in the past. “We will protect peace because enough coffins have returned sons to their mothers. We will do everything possible to ensure that does not happen again,” he said. Vučić concluded by reiterating that Serbia’s priority is both strength and responsibility, while acknowledging the remarkable speed and scale of Germany’s military investments.

The President also commented on recent debates over military acquisitions in the region. He noted that Croatia’s acquisition of advanced air defense systems and second-hand fighter jets, as well as its expanding artillery and missile capabilities, represent a significant force in the Balkans. Serbia, he said, continues to develop its own defense while emphasizing discipline, preparedness, and strategic deterrence.

Vučić’s statements come amid ongoing discussions in Europe regarding military balance and security in the Western Balkans, highlighting Serbia’s concerns about regional alliances and its determination to remain strong and sovereign while avoiding unnecessary conflicts.
