A Kosovo citizen of Serb nationality has been arrested on suspicion of committing war crimes against civilians during the 1998–1999 conflict, according to the Kosovo Police.

Authorities stated that the suspect is a former member of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia (MUP) and is alleged to have participated in coordinated police-military operations in March 1999 in Skënderaj.

According to the police statement, the suspect is believed to have acted in cooperation with other armed units during operations that involved the forced expulsion of civilians from their homes, as well as the beating, torture, and killing of civilians. Authorities further allege that 15 ethnic Albanian civilians were killed and 16 others went missing during the same events in two separate locations.

The individual has been detained for 48 hours under a decision issued by the competent prosecutor, while investigations into the case continue.

Police confirmed that the suspect was interviewed in the presence of a defense attorney, in accordance with legal procedures.

The case is part of ongoing efforts by Kosovo authorities to investigate and prosecute alleged war crimes committed during the conflict, many of which remain unresolved decades later.
