Russia has expressed willingness to play a role in resolving issues related to Iran’s enriched uranium, as diplomatic efforts continue to ease tensions over Tehran’s nuclear program.

Speaking during a visit to Beijing, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Moscow is prepared to assist in managing Iran’s uranium stockpile through various mechanisms.

According to Lavrov, potential measures could include reprocessing highly enriched uranium into fuel-grade material or transferring a portion of it to Russia for storage. He emphasized that any arrangement would depend on Iran’s consent and must respect its right to enrich uranium for peaceful purposes under international law.

Russia was a key participant in the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and major world powers, which aimed to limit Tehran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief and enhanced international oversight. As part of that deal, Moscow had previously facilitated the removal of significant quantities of enriched uranium from Iran.

The Kremlin has maintained political support for Iran following the unilateral withdrawal of the United States from the agreement during the presidency of Donald Trump.

Lavrov also noted that Russia and China strongly support renewed negotiations to reduce tensions in the Middle East, stressing the importance of respecting the legitimate rights of all parties in line with international law.

The proposal underscores Moscow’s continued involvement in nuclear diplomacy and highlights broader geopolitical efforts to prevent escalation in the region.
