Prishtina, April 24, 2026 – The Assembly of Kosovo is hosting commemorative homages in honor of the life and work of academic Rexhep Qosja, one of the most prominent Albanian intellectuals, who passed away at the age of 90.
Under the patronage of the Acting President of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, the Book of Condolences was opened in the Assembly building, where state officials and public figures are paying tribute.
The first signature in the Book of Condolences was made by Acting President and Speaker of the Assembly, Albulena Haxhiu, who also participated in the memorial ceremony, highlighting Qosja’s major contribution to Albanian language, literature, and critical thought.

Former President Atifete Jahjaga attended the commemorative homages and also signed the Book of Condolences, expressing respect for Qosja’s lifelong intellectual legacy.

Former President Vjosa Osmani likewise paid tribute and signed the Book of Condolences, emphasizing his importance as one of the most influential voices in Albanian academic and cultural life.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti also took part in the homages and signed the Book of Condolences, underlining Qosja’s enduring impact on public discourse and national identity.

Members of Parliament, including the leadership and deputies of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), led by party leader Bedri Hamza, also attended the ceremony and paid their respects.

Separately, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) leader Ramush Haradinaj also signed the Book of Condolences and held commemorative homages in honor of Rexhep Qosja, praising his life and contribution to Albanian culture and scholarship.

The commemorative homages are being held in the Assembly of Kosovo until 16:00, as part of a state day of mourning declared in honor of Rexhep Qosja.
The family of the late academic confirmed that he was buried on Thursday in a private family ceremony. They requested respect for privacy and stated that no public or institutional funeral ceremonies would be organized at their participation.
Rexhep Qosja remains one of the most influential Albanian scholars, known for his extensive work in literature, linguistics, and cultural criticism.
