Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s foreign policy chief, has reacted to the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner held at the Washington Hilton, where Donald Trump was in attendance.

In a post on the social platform “X,” Kallas said that political violence has no place in a democratic society and that such events should never occur in spaces meant to honor a free press.

She expressed relief that all attendees, including President Trump, were safe following the incident, and wished a speedy recovery to the injured officer.

“Political violence has no place in a democracy. An event meant to honor a free press should never become a scene of fear,” Kallas wrote.

The shooting was reported at the start of the dinner, causing panic among attendees, who dropped to the floor before being evacuated by security forces. United States Secret Service agents intervened immediately, and the suspect was arrested at the scene. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
