Deputies from Lëvizja Vetëvendosje, along with members of the government cabinet including Prime Minister Albin Kurti, gathered alone in the main hall of the Assembly of Kosovo for a “discussion” session regarding the President.

Opposition parties Democratic Party of Kosovo, Democratic League of Kosovo, and Alliance for the Future of Kosovo did not attend the extraordinary session, which was unexpectedly called not to elect a President, but to discuss the issue.

Vetëvendosje has requested that PDK and LDK propose three names for President as a “concrete and unifying” step toward resolving the ongoing political deadlock, which risks pushing the country into new elections.

Over the weekend, LDK leader Lumir Abdixhiku proposed the name of Vjosa Osmani to Kurti, asking for guarantees that 66 MPs from the majority would support her candidacy.

Kurti has not yet publicly responded, while the constitutional deadline for electing a new President is approaching.

If no President is elected, Kosovo will be required to hold new elections within 45 days, deepening the current political uncertainty.
