Iran has warned Gulf states that any new U.S. attack on Iranian territory would be followed by retaliatory actions targeting critical energy infrastructure across the region.
According to five sources cited by Reuters, Tehran is seeking to increase the cost of any potential military action by putting pressure on Washington’s regional allies.
The warning was reportedly delivered through high-level diplomatic channels after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened on July 28 to target Iran’s energy network and infrastructure.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is reported to have held discussions with his counterparts in Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Qatar, as well as with Pakistan’s army chief.
According to the sources, Iran’s message was that any strike against its infrastructure could trigger retaliatory attacks against energy facilities and other critical infrastructure in Gulf countries.
The developments mark a new escalation in regional tensions and have increased concerns over global energy supplies, as Gulf states are among the world’s leading exporters of oil and natural gas.
