Prime Minister Albin Kurti addressed lawmakers in the Assembly of Kosovo during an extraordinary session called by Lëvizja Vetëvendosje to discuss the issue of the presidency.

Kurti said the country has reached the end of the constitutional deadline for electing the President, warning of immediate consequences if the process fails.

“Today we have reached the end of the constitutional deadline for electing the President of the Republic. Failure will send the country to new elections, which would be the fifth in just 16 months. That would mean, on average, elections in almost every season of the year. New elections would slow down the work of the Government,” he stated.

He rejected accusations that Vetëvendosje has avoided responsibility, insisting that his party has consistently acted without delay.

“Claims that VV is avoiding responsibility are not true. There has been no delay, hesitation, or avoidance in taking responsibility to govern — not in March 2021, not in February this year. This is measurable and verifiable,” Kurti added.

Kosovo now faces increasing political pressure as the deadline closes, with the risk of another round of elections within 45 days if no President is elected.
