The White House has confirmed it is reviewing Iran’s latest proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz—a vital route through which roughly one-fifth of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas supplies pass.

According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), Donald Trump met with senior national security advisers to discuss the proposal after Iran sent “written messages” to Washington via Pakistan as an intermediary. These messages reportedly outlined Tehran’s red lines, including nuclear issues and control over the strategic waterway.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt confirmed to reporters that the proposal is “under discussion.” Reports suggest it could involve the US lifting its blockade on Iranian ports, while Iran would ease its control over the strait as broader negotiations continue.

Meanwhile, Iranian Defence Ministry spokesperson Reza Talaei-Nik stated that the United States “is no longer in a position to dictate policy to independent nations.”

Responding to the proposal, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said it is “better than we expected,” but questioned its sincerity. He emphasized that any agreement must ensure Iran is prevented from moving toward acquiring nuclear weapons.
