The National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo has confirmed eight cases of Measles in Kosovo between April 16 and 30, 2026, with two additional suspected cases under investigation.
According to health authorities, all confirmed cases involve unvaccinated children who had not received the MMR vaccine (measles, mumps, and rubella). All affected children are currently receiving hospital treatment, highlighting the potential severity and complications associated with the disease.
IKSHPK has issued an urgent appeal to parents to check their children’s vaccination records and ensure immunization at the nearest family medicine centers.
Given the highly contagious nature of measles and the risk of further spread, authorities also recommend avoiding contact with individuals showing symptoms such as high fever, rash, skin changes, cough, and runny nose. Anyone exhibiting suspected symptoms is urged to seek immediate medical attention.
The institute stated that it is closely monitoring the epidemiological situation and has deployed concrete measures in the field, including identifying unvaccinated children, actively contacting parents, and mobilizing teams to carry out community-based, door-to-door vaccination campaigns in areas with low coverage.
Health officials emphasized that vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent measles and protect public health.
