The Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced that its high-priority meeting, originally scheduled for 11:30 AM today, Friday, May 1, 2026, has been postponed. The session is now set to commence at 2:00 PM.

CEC spokesperson Valmir Elezi confirmed the change, citing “organizational reasons” for the delay. The meeting will be presided over by the Chairman of the CEC, Kreshnik Radoniqi.

High-Stakes Agenda

With the country heading toward snap elections on June 7, 2026, today’s meeting is considered a critical milestone in the administrative preparation for the vote. The commission is expected to discuss and approve several vital documents:

  • Election Timeline: Formalizing the specific deadlines for party registration, candidate lists, and the official campaign period.
  • Election Budget: Finalizing the financial resources required to execute a national vote on short notice.
  • Human Resources: Strategic planning for the recruitment of temporary staff and determining compensation for additional electoral duties.

Political Context

This meeting follows the recent dissolution of the Assembly after political parties failed to reach a consensus on electing a new president. Acting President Albulena Haxhiu set the June 7 date earlier this week, leaving the CEC with a very tight window to ensure all technical and legal requirements are met.

The postponement of today’s meeting, though brief, has heightened the sense of urgency in Prishtina as political entities await the official “clock” to start ticking for the 2026 electoral race.
