Germany’s Defense Minister, Boris Pistorius, has stated that the decision by the United States to withdraw troops from Europe was foreseeable.
According to him, Europeans must take on greater responsibility for their own security.
He also noted that Germany will work closely with the “Group of Five” in future missions, which includes the United Kingdom, France, Italy, and Poland.
“It was predictable that the U.S. would withdraw troops from Europe, including Germany,” Pistorius said.
The Pentagon has announced plans to withdraw 5,000 American troops from Germany.
Pistorius added that Germany is “on the right track” regarding its defense, citing the expansion of the Bundeswehr, faster and larger-scale procurement of equipment, and the development of infrastructure.
