The leader of the Ramush Haradinaj and chairman of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) has paid tribute to UÇK commander Ekrem Rexha – Drini, as well as the martyrs and fallen fighters of May 8 during the Kosovo Liberation War.
Haradinaj described Ekrem Rexha – Drini as one of the most emblematic figures of the Kosovo Liberation Army, praising his leadership and vision in the struggle for Kosovo’s liberation.
“Ekrem Rexha – Drini was among the most emblematic figures of the Kosovo Liberation Army, who, with his leadership and vision, left an indelible mark on our glorious history,” Haradinaj wrote.
He said Rexha’s loss was a heavy blow to the country, his family, and his fellow fighters.
In the same statement, Haradinaj also remembered the sacrifice of the residents of Kashicë, Staradran, and Terstenik, saying they “became the cornerstone of the state we enjoy today.”
He further referred to the Battle of Llapushnik (May 8–10, 1998), calling it one of the most important and heroic battles of the liberation war. According to him, the battle marked a turning point in the development of frontal warfare and disrupted a key supply route of Serbian forces.
“With respect and humility, we remember and honor the 47 martyrs and 54 civilians who fell for the freedom of Kosovo,” the statement reads.
Haradinaj also paid tribute to the martyrs of Lëbushë, emphasizing that their sacrifice remains the foundation of Kosovo’s freedom.
“Their blood became the foundation of our freedom, and their memory will live on from generation to generation. Glory to all the martyrs of Kosovo!” he concluded.
