Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, speaking at a press conference alongside EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, called for Kosovo’s application for EU candidate status to be advanced.

Kurti said it has been 40 months since Kosovo applied and that it is time for the European Union to move the process forward.

“We share common values with the EU and we are fully aligned with its foreign and security policy. We have joined all sanctions against the Russian Federation,” Kurti said.

“It has been over 40 months since we applied, and the renewed momentum for EU enlargement should result in the deserved advancement of Kosovo. Public support for the EU, for membership in the EU, stands at around 90% in our country and is among the highest among all candidate countries. Finding unity within the EU to make decisions regarding Kosovo is a shared task. The EU is also required to push this unity forward. The vacuum left by the EU is being attempted to be filled by other malicious actors who threaten our common security,” he added.
