Family members of Sadik Durak from Kosovo, detained in Serbia since April 17, say that they have no information about what is happening to him, while the lawyer says that the measure of his detention is “expiring”.

Durak, who holds British citizenship, was arrested last month at a border crossing between Croatia and Serbia on suspicion of “war crimes” in 1999 – charges denied by his family.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora of Kosovo confirmed at that time for Radio Free Europe that he was sentenced to 30 days of detention.

REL asked the Ministry of Justice if there is any information about his case now that this deadline has ended, but did not receive an answer.

Sadik Duraku’s brother, Avdyl Duraku, says he is “very worried” about his fate.

“I don’t know how to act from Kosovo… His lawyer, for three weeks now, tells us that a hearing will be held this week, this week… My brother is being held unjustly in the prisons of Serbia”, says Duraku for REL .

He also adds that his health condition is not good, as he suffers from heart problems.

Sadik Durak’s lawyer, Goran Petronijevic, says that his client’s “detention period is expiring”, but he does not specify when.

“Now it is decided whether the detention of 30 days will be continued or if it will be changed with some other measure”, he says for Radio Free Europe.

According to Petronijevic, the detention measure was determined due to, as has been said, the risk of escape, because it is about foreign citizens, but also “public concern”, since the media have reported on the case.
