Three different scenarios for addressing Iran were at the center of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, according to a senior Israeli official.
The official told reporters in Washington that Netanyahu did not attempt to push any specific strategy against Tehran, but that the two leaders held a “broad exchange of views” regarding the options available.
According to the same source, the first scenario involves reaching a new diplomatic agreement with Iran.
The second option includes maintaining political and economic pressure through sanctions, but without launching a new military conflict if a deal cannot be reached.
The third scenario discussed involves launching a major new military strike against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Israeli official also sought to deny reports that Netanyahu traveled to Washington to convince Trump to resume U.S. attacks against Iran.
He noted that, unlike his previous visit in February, when Netanyahu presented arguments supporting greater American involvement in Israeli military operations, this time he did not urge the U.S. president to choose a specific course of action.
The official explained that Netanyahu expressed doubts over whether Tehran would comply with a potential agreement, but did not present a military solution as the only option.
During the same briefing, the two leaders carefully analyzed the advantages and disadvantages of each scenario, examining the possible consequences of a diplomatic solution, continued sanctions pressure, or a renewed military operation.
