Albania has rejected Russia’s request for diplomats and foreign citizens to leave Kyiv, describing it as unacceptable and contrary to international law.

Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha stated that threats directed at embassies do not constitute diplomacy, but intimidation, stressing that Albania will not back away from its support for Ukraine.

According to Hoxha, this position was also conveyed to the Russian ambassador in Tirana, Alexey Zaitsev, while Albanian authorities called for an end to the war through negotiations rather than attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure.

The United States had also previously rejected Russia’s request to withdraw diplomats from the Ukrainian capital.

It is worth recalling that on May 24, Russia carried out a massive missile and drone attack on Kyiv, during which the residence of Albania’s ambassador to Ukraine, Ernal Filo, was also hit.
