During her official visit to Washington D.C., Kosovo’s Foreign Minister, Donika Gërvalla, delivered a lecture at the American Institute “New Lines Institute for Strategy and Policy,” addressing fundamental global security issues and security challenges in the Southeastern Europe region.
Gërvalla announced that during her discussion, she emphasized Kosovo’s concerns regarding the influence of Russia and China in the region.
“I highlighted the risk of a potential conflict in Southeastern Europe, calling for continued support from the United States and the European Union in combating propaganda, disinformation, and the destabilizing actions of Serbia and Russia, which threaten not only the Western Balkans but all of Europe,” Gërvalla said.
During her stay in the US, Minister Gërvalla also met with the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, James O’Brien.
Gërvalla stated that in the spirit of the special relationship between the two countries, many aspects of deepening bilateral cooperation, strengthening the rule of law and democracy, and realizing the aspirations for the Republic of Kosovo’s membership in international organizations were addressed during the meeting.
“We also discussed other current developments in the country, emphasizing the commitment of institutions to maintaining peace and stability in the country and region as well as countering security threats,” Gërvalla said.
The head of Kosovo’s diplomacy met with Democratic Congressman Gregory Meeks, known as a great supporter of Kosovo, with whom she discussed intensifying visits by American congressmen to Kosovo and strengthening cooperation on specific issues, both in Kosovo’s foreign policy and in programs for the development of democracy, economy, and education.
During this meeting, the strong relations between the two states and peoples were reconfirmed, emphasizing that the citizens of Kosovo, even according to international measurements, are the most pro-American citizens in the world.
Gërvalla and Meeks also discussed the security situation in the Western Balkans and the destabilizing actions of Serbia and Russia in the region.
