Weather forecasters warn that local thunderstorms with lightning and thunder are expected to develop later in the afternoon and evening, first affecting northwestern Albania and later spreading overnight across other parts of Albania, North Macedonia, and Kosovo.
According to forecasts, some areas may experience intense rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder. However, precipitation is expected to be unevenly distributed, with some regions receiving heavy downpours in a short period of time, while others will see significantly less rainfall.
A strong frontal system moving in from the Adriatic Sea and Italy is expected to extend toward Montenegro, Albania, and later across other parts of the Balkans. Meteorologists note that storms will not affect all areas equally.
During the evening, frequent lightning activity is expected across Albania and Montenegro, with additional storm development possible in parts of Kosovo and North Macedonia. However, experts emphasize that it remains difficult to precisely determine where the most intense rainfall and storm activity will occur.
As a result of this unstable system, temperatures are expected to drop, with Thursday forecast to be noticeably cooler, bringing a mix of local rain showers and sunny intervals.
Severe storms are currently affecting parts of Italy and broader Europe following an intense early summer heatwave, with temperatures already showing a significant decline in several regions.
After tonight’s expected storm activity, Thursday is likely to remain unstable, although storm intensity is expected to weaken. Local showers may still occur, before atmospheric conditions gradually shift eastward across Europe.
By Friday, weather conditions are expected to stabilize completely, bringing sunny skies and a rapid increase in temperatures. However, some models suggest that minor instability could return during the weekend, potentially bringing isolated showers and thunderstorms, though not expected to be severe at this stage.
Meteorologists describe the upcoming night as potentially turbulent, especially across parts of Albania, Kosovo, and North Macedonia, but stress that such summer weather patterns are typical for this time of year.
Further updates are expected as conditions develop.
