Begaj Expresses Condolences After Tragedy in Shëngjin That Claimed the Lives of Two Young Kosovars

Albanian President Bajram Begaj has expressed his condolences following a tragic incident in Shëngjin, where two young people from Kosovo lost their lives after being swept away by strong sea currents.

According to reports, five young Kosovars entered the sea for a swim but were caught by powerful waves caused by strong winds. As a result, two of them drowned, while the other three remain in serious condition.

Reacting to the tragedy, President Begaj extended his deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.

“It is with deep sorrow that I learned of the tragic event that claimed the lives of two young people from Kosovo today in Shëngjin. In these difficult moments, I express my sincerest condolences to the families and relatives of the victims, while wishing a speedy recovery to their three friends,” Begaj said.

He added that the tragedy serves as a reminder of the importance of caution and adherence to safety measures on beaches.

“This tragedy reminds us of the importance of care and respect for all safety measures on our beaches. In light of this serious incident, I call on central and local institutions, as well as tourism operators, to take all necessary measures to ensure safety on beaches throughout the summer season, with the aim of preventing such events and protecting the lives of citizens and visitors,” he stated.

The incident has shocked both Kosovo and Albania, prompting renewed calls for enhanced beach safety measures during the busy summer tourist season.
