Tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated after Tehran warned it could take drastic measures if it faces further U.S. military strikes.

According to an Iranian security source cited by state broadcaster Press TV, Iran would consider completely closing the Strait of Hormuz in the event of another U.S. attack.

“Any new attack will be followed by immediate measures, including the closure of this strategic maritime route,” the source said, while also warning of retaliatory strikes against U.S. military targets and its regional allies.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy corridors, with a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports passing through the waterway. Any disruption could have a major impact on global energy markets and the world economy.

The Iranian warning follows recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, who said the United States is prepared to carry out additional strikes against Iran if the situation deteriorates further.

Iranian officials have reiterated that any military action against the country would receive a strong response. Analysts continue to view Iran’s ability to threaten shipping through the Strait of Hormuz as one of its most significant sources of strategic leverage in the region.

The international community is closely monitoring the situation amid growing concerns that tensions could escalate into a broader conflict in the Middle East.
