Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić held a meeting with Russian Ambassador to Belgrade Aleksandr Botsan-Kharchenko at a time when Serbia is attempting to maintain a delicate balance between its traditional partnership with Russia and its aspirations for European integration.
According to announcements from the Russian Embassy in Belgrade, the meeting focused on bilateral relations, the regional situation, and global developments.
The embassy described the discussion as “detailed and meaningful,” emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the two countries.
Following the meeting, Vučić stated that particular attention was paid to economic cooperation between Serbia and Russia, while once again raising one of the preferred themes in Moscow’s and Belgrade’s political narratives — the defense of “historical facts” and the legacy of World War II.
“Serbia and Russia will defend the achievements of the great victory from World War II and oppose all attempts to revise historical facts,” Vučić wrote after the meeting.
