German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that the fall of a missile in Poland, allegedly launched by Russia during a massive wave of attacks against Ukraine, demonstrates that Moscow is prepared to escalate the conflict beyond Ukraine and challenge European security.
According to Merz, the incident reflects Russia’s “complete lack of restraint” and represents a serious and worrying development for Europe’s security environment.
In a post on the social media platform X, the German chancellor strongly condemned the latest Russian attacks on Ukraine, stressing that “many civilians once again lost their lives” as a result of the bombardments.
The missile incident in Poland has raised renewed concerns among NATO allies over the risks of the war expanding beyond Ukraine’s borders. Polish and NATO authorities have launched investigations into the circumstances surrounding the missile’s entry into Polish airspace.
Germany remains one of Ukraine’s leading supporters in its defense against Russia’s invasion, providing Kyiv with military, financial, and humanitarian assistance.
