The European Union has called on Kosovo institutions to suspend further demolitions of buildings in the Ujman Lake area until the competent court reaches a final decision on outstanding property claims.
Anitta Hipper, spokesperson for EU foreign policy and security affairs chief Kaja Kallas, said Brussels regretted the demolition of houses, particularly because ownership claims concerning the properties remain under judicial review.
“We regret the demolition of the houses, especially since the property claims are still under judicial review,” Hipper said, according to KosovaPress.
She urged Kosovo authorities to halt any further demolitions and to work with affected residents and local authorities to find lawful and sustainable solutions.
The EU spokesperson stressed that all irreversible actions, including demolitions, should be suspended until the competent court issues a final ruling on the unresolved property claims.
The statement follows demolitions involving properties linked to the public enterprise Ibër-Lepenc in the Zubin Potok area, prompting questions over whether the European Union could consider measures if the demolitions continue.
The issue has added another point of tension around Ujman Lake, an area that has long carried political, economic and security significance in the Kosovo-Serbia dispute.
