Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has held talks with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on efforts to secure additional interceptor missiles to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses amid continued Russian attacks.
Zelenskyy said the discussion focused on the possibility of obtaining more air-defense interceptors, stressing that all bureaucratic obstacles must be removed and the necessary political decisions taken quickly.
“Everything must be done to remove bureaucratic obstacles and make the necessary political decisions,” Zelenskyy said, emphasizing the urgency of reinforcing Ukraine’s air-defense capabilities.
Rutte said following the conversation that he was consulting with NATO allies on how they could continue providing Ukraine with the air-defense capabilities it “urgently” needs.
The talks come as Ukraine continues to face intensified Russian missile and drone attacks, placing further pressure on Kyiv’s stockpiles of air-defense interceptors and its Western allies to accelerate deliveries.
Ukraine has repeatedly called on NATO members and other partners to provide additional air-defense systems and missiles, arguing that stronger protection is essential to safeguarding civilians and critical infrastructure.
