Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine’s policy regarding its non-recognition of Kosovo’s independence has not changed.
“We respect the territorial integrity of our partners and international law. Regarding Kosovo, our position remains unchanged. We are grateful to Serbia for respecting Ukraine’s territorial integrity, including Crimea,” Zelenskyy said during a press conference in Belgrade alongside Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić.
Although Kyiv does not recognize the independence declared by Kosovo in 2008, Kosovo has joined European and United States sanctions against Russia over the war in Ukraine. Pristina has also provided accommodation to Ukrainian journalists who fled their country because of the war.
Meanwhile, Vučić said he had discussed military cooperation with the Ukrainian leader, whose country has been facing Russia’s invasion since February 2022.
“What will happen when the war ends is another matter,” Vučić said, as he welcomed Zelenskyy on his first official visit to Serbia.
Vučić announced that a drone factory would open in Serbia in mid-September, but in cooperation with Israeli partners.
“Ukrainians are very successful and have many of their own drone factories,” he added.
Zelenskyy visited Serbia, one of the few countries in Europe that has not joined sanctions against Russia over its war against Ukraine, Radio Free Europe reports.
“We want a dignified peace,” Zelenskyy said, emphasizing that every opportunity to achieve peace should be used.
