Serbian and Russian media outlets continue to promote narratives about the situation in Kosovo. A few days ago, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova claimed that Serbs living in Kosovo are being intimidated, tortured, and forced to leave their homes.
A recently published report by the Kosovo Online portal has made similar claims. However, observations on the ground indicate that the Serbian community continues its daily activities, including employment, education, and business, just like other communities.
Security experts say that such Serbian-Russian narratives are intended to intimidate Kosovo Serbs, with the aim of subsequently using them to fuel tensions. Experts have expressed concern that Serbia and Russia are seeking to destabilize the situation in Kosovo.
“Serbia’s aggressive propaganda against Kosovo is aimed at domestic mobilization, using inflammatory narratives and seeking to maintain control over the Serbian community,” said Arben Fetoshi, director of the Institute for Hybrid War Studies “Octopus.”
“Serbia fans the flames of every incident involving the Kosovo Police and attempts, through the so-called Office for Kosovo, to portray the Kosovo Police as, so to speak, an institution targeting Serbs. This is inaccurate and is being done with malicious intentions,” said political scientist Dorajet Imeri.
