U.S. Congressman Joe Wilson has delivered a blunt warning over Serbia’s growing cooperation with China, accusing President Aleksandar Vučić of turning Serbia into a vehicle for Beijing’s influence in Europe.
Wilson sharply criticized Serbia’s purchase of Chinese technology for robot production, describing Vučić as a “puppet of Communist China” and arguing that Chinese technology should be rejected.
“The Chinese Communist Party is building robots through their Serbian puppet, Vučić. This is the beachhead of the Chinese Communist Party in Europe and runs counter to American interests. Communist Chinese technology must be rejected!” Wilson wrote.
The message is difficult to miss: while Serbia continues to present itself as a country seeking closer ties with the West, Washington is increasingly questioning how far Belgrade is drifting toward Beijing.
And Wilson’s accusation cuts directly at Vučić’s carefully maintained balancing act.
Serbia wants Western investment, European integration and cooperation with the United States while simultaneously expanding strategic and technological cooperation with China.
For Washington, that increasingly looks less like “balancing” and more like opening the door to Beijing’s influence in the heart of Europe.
Vučić may want Serbia to sit at every table. But if Belgrade keeps importing Beijing’s technology and deepening ties with the Chinese Communist Party, Washington is clearly asking a much more uncomfortable question: whose side is Serbia really on?
