Thousands of people gathered in central Prishtina on Friday evening for a protest against the recent verdict by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers against former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders.
The demonstration is being held under the slogan “Not in My Name” and comes in response to the convictions of former KLA leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.
Large numbers of participants were reported in the capital’s main square, with demonstrators chanting “UÇK” during the protest.
Among those present were Endri Thaçi and Klestor Veseli, the sons of former Kosovo President Hashim Thaçi and former KLA political leader Kadri Veseli, respectively.
The protest follows the September 16 judgment by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague, in which the Trial Panel found Thaçi, Veseli, Krasniqi and Selimi guilty of multiple war crimes.
The demonstration is taking place as supporters of the four former KLA leaders express opposition to the verdict and call for what they describe as justice and recognition of the KLA’s wartime role.
