Acting President of Kosovo Albulena Haxhiu said that the country’s institutions will not stop until the last person forcibly disappeared by Serbian forces during the Kosovo War is found and those responsible are brought to justice.

Haxhiu made the statement following the identification, through DNA analysis, of three victims whose remains were exhumed from mass graves in Kalludër and Jabukë, in the municipality of Zubin Potok.

In a Facebook post, Haxhiu emphasized that for 27 years, the families of the victims had lived without knowing the whereabouts of their loved ones.

“Three families received news today about their family members who were forcibly disappeared in 1999. DNA analysis confirmed the identities of three victims whose remains were exhumed from mass graves in Kalludër and Jabukë, in Zubin Potok. They were part of the group known as the ‘Group of Intellectuals,’ Albanians from Skenderaj and Mitrovica who were abducted by Serbian forces on April 19, 1999.

For 27 years, these families lived without knowing where their loved ones were. Today, they know. The pain remains, but this long wait has come to an end. I stand with them on this day. I also share the grief of the other families who are awaiting the results of the excavations in the coming weeks,” Haxhiu wrote on Facebook.
