Nearly a week after the Hague verdict against the former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders, Kosovo Acting President Albulena Haxhiu has invited the families of Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi to a meeting.
However, arranging the meeting with all of the families appears to be proving difficult.
The first response came last night from the family of former KLA spokesperson Jakup Krasniqi, through his son, Altin Krasniqi.
“We expect anyone who wishes to come to our home,” Altin Krasniqi said.
The Veseli family has also confirmed receiving the invitation, although they have not indicated whether they will attend.
The family of former President Hashim Thaçi has likewise not said how it will respond to Haxhiu’s invitation.
Meanwhile, Shqipe Selimi, the wife of Rexhep Selimi, has responded positively to the invitation.
The Office of the President explained that the purpose of the meeting is to discuss the path and strategy that should be followed following the Hague verdict, with the families considered important participants in those discussions.
According to the Presidency, Ministers Andin Hoti and Ejup Maqedonci are also expected to take part in the meeting.
The Presidency also said Haxhiu is willing to visit the families at their homes if necessary.
“As for visits to the families’ homes, the Acting President is ready to visit them at their homes as well. However, given the significance of this issue, it has been considered important that the first meeting take place at the Presidency. Holding the meeting at the institution gives it the institutional weight and character that this issue requires and makes clear that this is an issue that deserves the attention of the highest institution of the state. Naturally, this does not exclude visits or other meetings with the families,” the Presidency said.
The meeting is expected to take place this week, with the date and time to be determined once the families confirm their participation.
